Resin8 History

The Resin8 Project was started over five years ago on the premise of designing a line of performance shortboards with flexibility, durability and most importantly performance. Partnering up with one of the best shapers in the world, Sam Egan to create the prototypes for our line and working closely with our team of riders. we have developed a line of surfboards to meet the needs of any shortboard rider looking for performance and durablility.

Sam Egan is a very humble chap but over the last 5 years, we have come to understand just how good he is. You may not have seen his logos but Sam has shaped for many world champions and at one time 14 surfers out of the top 44 were riding his boards. He has an understanding of surfboard shaping and construction that is unsurpassed. If you speak to anyone who really knows about shapers, they will tell you what a great shaper and man he is. Sam was vital in the early years particularly where he advised on the elements of high performance surfboard construction, business and shaping.

We set up our production facility in China in 2002. Since then, hundreds of Resin8s have been produced by that same team and tested and results have been fedback so that we can refine and improve the manufacturing process and develop the Resin8 surfboard’s increasingly acclaimed performance. Through years of trial and error we have been able to establish a consistent, high quality surfboard which some people think offers the best experience available.

In 2006, Andy Seidensticker from Mal Pais, Costa Rica joined our team and has been resident in China ever since. Having 13 years of experience making EPS epoxy and working with the greatest fin designer ever, Curtis Hesselgrave, where he learnt to handshape fins to minute tolerances, Andy was able to refine the fine details of our process and in the last 12 months we have started producing boards where the feedback has been consistently, surprisingly good. Andy has done a really great job.

In late 2006 we hooked up with Hawaiians, Sage and Freddy in Bali who were on a trip with the Da Hui crew. They both tripped out on our boards and have since then been helping us to build our team of test pilots in the birthplace of Surfing. The team there have helped us to improve the product and also pass on the word about how good Resin8s are. Sage and Freddy are now a very welcome part of our management team.

During 2007 we started talking with Wade Tokoro who is widely regarded as the best shaper in the world right now for big wave boards and a growing number of WCT pros believe he is making the best shortboards too. Check out his website www.tokorosurfboards.com. Wade still charges Pipe and rips small waves too so he has an understanding of the top pros requirements that have helped him to develop his shapes to enhance modern radical surfing. The worlds best use his boards all the time. We were really happy that he started talking with us since we knew that there were a lot of other companies who wanted to make boards with him and that could offer him a lot more. It was a real turning point for us when Wade said that he had tested all the other products and he thought ours was best. In September 2007 Wade and Resin8 agreed to make boards together, we are really excited about where it will all go.
